Supaya Gray Wolfe

  • Supaya Gray Wolfe is a talented and inspiring artist who creates unique, meaningful, and intricate artwork. She draws inspiration from her education, which she acquired from living on different reservations, including the Cherokee reservation, Pine Ridge South Dakota Lakota reservation, and the Navajo reservation in Arizona.

Supaya learned from the tribal elders and from her Navajo ‘heart mother’ and was taught and instructed about the old ways and designs, listening to their stories from the past. All of these lessons inspired her artwork. Her reproductions of Native American clothing and items are inspired from the 1800’s to the early 1900’s time period and come from the love in her heart for this beautiful culture!

Supaya’s artwork aims to honor and keep traditional Native American history alive. Each of her pieces have a story to tell, making her work timeless. Supaya’s use of traditional methods in buffalo and deer hides, horsehair, glass, ghost, brass beads, and other materials to create her artwork. Supaya hand sews them with sinew and uses natural earth pigments just as she was taught by the Elders.

Supaya Gray Wolfe has received numerous awards and recognition for her work. Some of her notable achievements include winning Best of Show and Best Artist-Leather winner at the Western Design Conference in Cody. She also received the Best in Show for Decorative Objects of Art at the By Western Hands Invitational 2022 show.
