“Cheyenne Dog Men Society are an important part of the Cheyenne tribe. Regarded as highly aggressive and effective Warriors.
Council Chiefs were responsible for the tribe as a whole and the Headsmen of the military Societies were to maintain discipline within the tribe.
The most elite Dog Soldiers wore large feathered headdresses. Several chosen men from the society wore “ dog ropes “ that were made from hide usually 10’ to 12’ long.
During battle the Dog Soldier would stake his “ dog rope” to the ground - out in plain sight - serving as a human decoy giving woman children and elders a better chance to
hide from the enemy.
He would fight from that location through the end of the battle. He could not lerve
until the battle was over and a fellow soldier had unpinned his sash.
